Barbosa Nets Game-Winner in Overtime as Men’s Soccer Downs Molloy 2-1

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y.- Caldwell University men's soccer freshman Brendan Barbosa (Kenilworth, N.J.) connected on a game-winner in overtime to send the Cougars to a 2-1 victory over Molloy College in a non-conference contest.

The Cougars improve to 2-1-0, while the Lions fall to 1-1-1.

Molloy got the scoring started as they took the lead with a goal in the 15th minute of play. Caldwell pulled even seven minutes later as sophomore Israel Dos Santos Neto (Salvador Bahia, Brazil) tallied the equalizer in the 21st minute.

Despite a 14-2 shot advantage for Molloy in the second half, the game remained tied at 1-1 and headed to overtime.

The Cougars had a corner kick late in the first overtime where sophomore Alex Spencer (St. Andrew, Jamaica) fed the ball into the box and Barbosa netted the game-winner to help Caldwell notch their second straight win.

Freshman Dylan Valencia (Elizabeth, N.J.) recorded five saves as he played the entire game in net.

The Cougars return to the pitch as they welcome American International College in their home opener on Wednesday, September 15 at 4 pm.
