CALDWELL, N.J.- The Caldwell University women's volleyball team opened their 2021 season with a 3-1 loss to Queens College.
The Cougars open their season at 0-1, while the Knights improve to 1-2.
Queens took the first two sets 25-23 and 25-21. The Cougars battled back to take the third set 25-22 but the Knights outlasted the Cougars in the fourth set 26-24.
Sophomore Amanda Schiltz (Durham, N.C.) led the Cougars with 18 kills, five solo blocks and nine digs. Junior Mary Grace Hartmann (Cutchogue, N.Y.) added eight kills, while junior Alexsandra Mojica (Kearny, N.J.) posted five kills and 13 digs.
Graduate Shayna Saltzman (Pine Beach, N.J.) finished with four kills, three aces, 20 assists and 14 digs. Senior Samantha Ashton (Colonia, N.J.) totaled 17 assists and 10 digs. Senior Humiko Stormer (Luckey, Ohio) led the Cougars with 37 digs.
The Cougars head to the East Stroudsburg University Tournament this weekend as they take on Kutztown University on Friday, September 10 at noon and play Saint Anselm College at 2 pm.
