ALBANY, N.Y.- The Caldwell University men's soccer team netted four goals as the Cougars defeated The College of Saint Rose 4-1 in a non-conference contest.
The Cougars improve to 1-1-0, while the Golden Knights fall to 0-1-0.
The teams played a scoreless first half with Saint Rose holding a 7-2 shot advantage over the first 45 minutes of the game.
Caldwell got the second half scoring started as junior
Andre Vieira (Union, N.J.) scored in the first minute of the second half to stake the Cougars to a 1-0 lead.
Sophomore
Matthew Escobar (Kearny, N.J.) added a goal less than a minute later off a Vieira assist while sophomore
Israel Dos Santos Neto (Salvador Bahia, Brazil) extended Caldwell's lead to 3-0 in the 56th minute of play off an assist from graduate
Mateo Cobos (Newark, N.J.).
Graduate
Thomas Santana (Carmo do Rio Claro, Brazil) tacked on a late goal for Caldwell to cap their scoring in the 83rd minute.
The Golden Knights broke through in the 88th minute for their lone goal of the game.
Freshman
Dylan Valencia (Elizabeth, N.J.) recorded five saves in 90 minutes in net.
The Cougars travel to Molloy College on Wednesday, September 8 for a non-conference contest at 4 pm.
