CALDWELL, N.J.- Caldwell University baseball graduate
Luis Rullan (Bloomfield, N.J.) went 6-for-7 and the Cougars got strong pitching performances as they swept a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader against North Division rival Bloomfield College. The Cougars won the opener 10-2 and took the nightcap 7-3 to complete the sweep.

The Cougars improve to 12-14 overall and 10-12 in the CACC, while the Bears fall to 8-17 and 8-16 in conference play.

In the opener, Caldwell jumped out to a 4-1 lead after the first two innings. The Cougars took advantage of an error to score their first run in the opening inning, while junior
Kyle Richards (Sayreville, N.J.) grounded out to score another run. The Bears scored one run in their half of the first but Rullan singled in two runs in the second inning.

Bloomfield added a run in the third inning to cut the score to 4-2.

The Cougars extended their lead in the fifth as senior
Tavis Brunson (Westfield, N.J.) blasted a two-run homerun for a 6-2 lead.

Caldwell tacked on four runs in the seventh as Rullan singled in one run, while Brunson doubled in a run. Richards drove in a run with a single. Â

John Istvan (Dover, N.J.) tossed five innings, allowing two runs on five hits, while striking out five to improve to 2-0.

Dhillon Barbetti (West Long Branch, N.J.) and Rullan followed with run scoring singles to take a 3-0 lead.

Bloomfield closed the gap with two runs in their half of the inning to cut the score to 3-2.

The teams traded runs in the fifth as the Cougars scored a run on an error as they held a 4-3 lead. Caldwell added three insurance runs in the seventh Richards connected on a three-run double to push their lead to 7-3.

Junior
Frank Lehmann (Colonia, N.J.) earned the win to improve to 2-1 on the season. He allowed three runs on four hits, while striking out eight in a complete game effort.

The Cougars have qualified for the CACC Tournament and will await the final results and conference standings that will determine their post season match-up. Â
