CALDWELL, N.J.- The Caldwell University softball team split a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader against Nyack College. The Cougars took the opener 14-0 in five innings but the Warriors prevailed in the nightcap 6-1.

The Cougars move to 4-5-1 overall and 4-5 in the CACC, while the Warriors stand at 1-7 and 1-3 in conference play.

In the opener, Caldwell got on the board in the opening inning as junior
Lauren Stansell (Plantation, Fla.) and sophomore
Taylor Mischler (Endicott, N.Y.) drew back-to-back walks. Following one out, junior
Chloe VanGorder (Harveys Lake, Pa.) blasted a three-run homerun for a 3-0 lead.

The Cougars broke the game open in the third as they scored 10 runs in the inning. Senior
Anyssia Ramirez (Brentwood, Calif.) had a two-run single in the inning, while sophomore
Courtney Grundhauser (Easton, Pa.) added a two-run double. Freshman
Samantha Nuneviller (Harleysville, Pa.) also had a key hit in the inning with a run scoring triple and she scored later in the inning on a wild pitch.

Junior
Mariah Culver (Owego, N.Y.) improved to 2-3 as she tossed three scoreless innings, allowing four hits with three strikeouts. Freshman
Morgan Kapp (Waterloo, N.Y.) came on for two innings in relief, allowing no runs and no hits with one strikeout.

In the nightcap, the Warriors jumped in front with a run in the opening inning.

Caldwell rallied in the third inning as freshman
Valerie Joaquin (Long Beach, Calif.) led off the inning with a single and reached third on a two-base error. Joaquin scored later in the inning on a Mischler ground out.

Nyack took the lead with four runs in the fourth inning and added a run in the sixth.

Junior
Kayla Daly (Babylon, N.Y.) took the loss, pitching 3 2/3 innings, allowing five runs on six hits and struck out three. Kapp scored two innings, allowing one run on two hits with on strikeout. Sophomore
Lindsey Davies (Levittown, N.Y.) pitched the final 1 1/3 scoreless innings, allowing one hit with two strikeouts.
