HILLBURN, N.Y.- Caldwell University men's lacrosse sophomore
Kevin Albright (Mays Landing, N.J.) scored the game-tying goal in late in regulation and netted the game-winner in overtime to lift the Cougars to a 14-13 win over Dominican College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game.
The Cougars improve to 5-4 overall and 3-2 in the CACC, while the Chargers fall to 2-4 overall and 1-2 in conference play.
Graduate
Chris Snow (Ledgewood, N.J.) got the Cougars on the board first with a goal with 12:44 left in the opening quarter. Dominican closed the quarter with three straight goals to lead 3-1 after one quarter.
Caldwell rallied back with three goals to start the second quarter to take a one-goal lead. Sophomore
Michael Brown (Glenolden, Pa.) and freshman
Jason Staudte (Sound Beach, N.Y.) scored to even the game at three with 10:16 left in the second quarter. Albright added a goal to put the Cougars ahead 4-3 midway through the quarter. Dominican pulled even at four but Snow and Albright added goals to push ahead 6-4. The Chargers closed the gap to 6-5 with a late goal before the half.
The teams traded goals to start the second half as freshman
Gage Herzog (Islip Terrace, N.Y.) and Snow as the Cougars maintained their one-goal lead at 8-7. Albright and freshman
Jayden Paladino (Hawthorne, N.J.) tallied goals late in the quarter for a 10-8 lead heading to the final 15 minutes.
Dominican battled back with four of the five goals to start the fourth quarter to pull ahead 12-11 with 4:14 left in regulation. Brown evened the score at 12 at the 2:17 mark. The Chargers retook the lead with 1:59 to play but Albright netted the game-tying goal with 14.9 seconds left in regulation to force overtime.
In the extra period, Albright tallied the game-winner at the 2:11 mark to send the Cougars to a key conference win.
Snow led the Cougars with six goals and three assists, while Albright tallied six goals. Brown posted two goals and one assist, while Staudte added one goal and two assists.
Sophomore
Tim Livingston (Holtsville, N.Y.) played all 60 minutes and tallied 18 saves in the win.
The Cougars close out the regular season as they travel to Wilmington University for a CACC contest on Saturday, May 1 at 1 pm.
