CALDWELL, N.J.- The Caldwell University baseball team fell in a pair of games to Wilmington University in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference cross division doubleheader. The Cougars lost the opener 6-1 and fell short in the nightcap 7-4.

The Cougars fall to 8-11 overall and 6-9 in the CACC, while the Wildcats improve to 11-4 and 11-4 in conference play.

Caldwell pulled ahead in the opener as senior
Tavis Brunson (Westfield, N.J.) doubled with two outs. Junior
Keith Richards (Sayreville, N.J.) followed with a run scoring single to give the Cougars a 1-0 lead.

Wilmington rallied in the fourth as they pulled even with a run. The Wildcats took the lead with a run in the fifth and added one in the sixth and three in seventh.

In the nightcap, Wilmington jumped in front with three runs in the opening inning. The Cougars answered in their half of the inning as junior
Frank Lehmann (Colonia, N.J.) led off with a single and scored on a triple by graduate
Dhillon Barbetti (West Long Branch, N.J.). Brunson followed with a single to close the gap to 3-2.

The Wildcats added a run in the second but Caldwell pulled even with two in the third. Barbetti led off the inning and reached base on a hit by pitch. Brunson followed with a game-tying two-run homerun to pull even at 4-4.

Wilmington pushed across two runs in the fifth and added one in the sixth to take a 7-4 lead.

The Cougars travel to Post University in a CACC doubleheader on Sunday, April 25 at noon.
