CALDWELL, N.J.- The Caldwell University baseball team rapped out 17 hits as the Cougars defeated Post University 13-5 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference contest.
The Cougars improve to 8-9 overall and 6-7 in the CACC, while the Eagles drop to 1-9 and 1-9 in conference play.
Post took the early lead with a run in the opening inning. Caldwell battled back in their half of the inning as they came up with four runs. Senior
Jack Zosulis (East Windsor, N.J.) tied the game with a run scoring single. Senior
Tavis Brunson (Westfield, N.J.) gave the Cougars the lead with a two-run double. Junior
Jalen March (Baltimore, Md.) added a sacrifice fly in the inning for a 4-1 lead.
The Cougars added a run in the second on an error before Post rallied with a run in the fourth.
Caldwell added to their lead in the fourth inning as sophomore
Elias Negron (Virginia Beach, Va.) scored on a wild pitch. Junior
Frank Lehmann (Colonia, N.J.) scored on a double steal, while Zosulis added a run scoring single in the inning.
The Cougars score four runs in the final two innings as Negron had a key two run single in the eighth.
Graduate
Michael Hess (Valley Cottage. N.Y.) earned the win in relief, as he tossed 2 2/3 scoreless innings, allowing one hit and struck out four.
The Cougars host Wilmington University in a CACC doubleheader on Saturday, April 24 at 1 pm at the Kiwanis Oval.
