CALDWELL, N.J.- The Caldwell University softball team swept a doubleheader against Bloomfield College, taking the opener 3-1 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference contest and won a non-conference game two 9-1 in five innings.

The Cougars improve to 10-7-1 overall and 9-7 in the CACC, while the Bears fall to 3-10-1 and 3-7 in conference play.

In the opener, junior
Emma Cooney (Livingston, N.J.) drew a two-out walk in the second. Freshman
Samantha Nuneviller (Harleysville, Pa.) gave Caldwell the early lead with a run scoring single.

The Bears answered in the fifth as they pushed across the tying run in the inning. Caldwell rallied back in the top of the seventh with a pair of runs and junior
Mariah Culver (Owego, N.Y.) closed the door on the Bloomfield in their final at-bat.

Culver (6-4) tossed a complete game, allowing one run on six hits, striking out a season-high nine in the win. Sophomore
Taylor Mischler (Endicott, N.Y.) went 3-for-4, while Nuneviller went 2-for-3 in the opener.

The Cougars scored four runs in the first inning of the nightcap as Mischler drove in the first run with a triple. Senior
Paige Sandoval (Aliso Viejo, Calif.) doubled in a run later in the inning, while Cooney added a run scoring single for a 4-0 lead.

Sophomore
Courtney Grundhauser (Easton, Pa.) doubled in one run in the second, while junior
Lauren Stansell (Plantation, Fla.) added a two-run triple in the third for a 7-0 lead.

Bloomfield scored a run in the fourth inning but Caldwell answered in their half of the inning. Nuneviller singled home two runs in their half of the fourth and junior
Kayla Daly (Babylon, N.Y.) closed out the win.

Daly (4-3) pitched a complete game, allowing one run on three hits with three strikeouts. Stansell and Sandoval each went 2-for-3, while Grundhauser went 1-for-2 and scored twice.
