CALDWELL, N.J.- The Caldwell University softball team swept Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader against Holy Family University. The Cougars posted a pair of shutouts as they took the opener 6-0 and completed the sweep with a 9-0 victory in five innings in the nightcap.
The Cougars improve to 8-7-1 overall and 8-7 in the CACC, while the Tigers drop to 1-17 and 1-13 in conference play.
Caldwell jumped in front in the opener with two runs in the second inning. Senior
Anyssia Ramirez (Brentwood, Calif.) doubled in the first run of the game, while junior
Emma Cooney (Livingston, N.J.) gave the Cougars a 2-0 lead with an RBI double.
The Cougars added a run in the third and Ramirez blasted a solo homerun in the fourth. Caldwell closed out its scoring in the fifth as sophomore
Courtney Grundhauser (Easton, Pa.) hit a sacrifice fly that scored two runs.
Junior
Mariah Culver (Owego, N.Y.) earned the win as she tossed five scoreless innings, allowing five hits and struck out eight to improve to 5-4. Junior
Kayla Daly (Babylon, N.Y.) added a pair of scoreless frames with two strikeouts to close out the opening game victory.

Chloe VanGorder (Harveys Lake, Pa.) singled to drive in the first run of the game. Ramirez drew a walk to force in a run, while senior
Paige Sandoval (Aliso Viejo, Calif.) ripped a two-run double. Cooney followed with a two-run double in the inning, while freshman
Valerie Joaquin (Long Beach, Calif.) added a run scoring double.
Caldwell tacked on a pair of runs in the fourth as junior
Lauren Stansell (Plantation, Fla.) reached on an infield single and came around to score on a three-base error. VanGorder added a run scoring double in the inning.
Daly earned the win in the nightcap to even her record at 3-3. She tossed for scoreless innings, allowing two hits and struck out four. Freshman
Morgan Kapp (Waterloo, N.Y.) struck out two in a scoreless inning.
The Cougars host Bloomfield College for a split doubleheader on Sunday, April 18 at noon. The first game will be a conference contest, while game two will be played as a non-conference game.
