CALDWELL, N.J.- Caldwell University baseball senior Tavis Brunson (Westfield, N.J.) collected four hits with a pair of RBI as the Cougars defeated Dominican College 9-4 in their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference opener.

The Cougars improve to 3-1 on the season and 1-0 in the CACC, while the Chargers fall to 4-3 and 0-1 in conference play.

Dominican jumped put to an early lead with a run on the first inning and added a run in the second for a 2-0 lead.

Caldwell rallied in the second as junior Jalen March (Baltimore, Md.) drove in the first Cougar run with a double. Freshman Noah Putney (Glassboro, N.J.) singled to tie the game at 2-2.

The teams traded runs in the fourth as the Chargers took a 3-2 lead but the Cougars pulled even on a Brunson RBI single in their half of the inning.

Dominican pushed ahead 5-4 with a run in the fifth inning but he Cougars broke the game open in their half of the inning.

Junior Kyle Richards (Sayreville, N.J.) tied the game with a run scoring single, while Brunson followed with a single to score the go-ahead run. March added a run scoring single, while Brunson scored later in the inning on a double steal.

Junior Frank Lehmann (Colonia, N.J.) drove in a run in the eighth inning with a single and scored later in the inning.

Brunson went 4-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. Richards added a 2-for-4 effort with two runs scored, while March went 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Senior Jack Anderson (Nyack, N.Y.) tossed 4 1/3 innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on four hits with two strikeouts. Senior Tom Disch (Branchburg, N.J.) earned the win in relief, pitching 1 2/3 innings, allowing one run on two hits. Senior Michael Hess (Valley Cottage, N.J.) earned the save with three scoreless innings, allowing one hit and striking out five.

The Cougars host Molloy College in a non-conference contest on Wednesday, March 24 at 2:00 pm at the Kiwanis Oval.
