CALDWELL, N.J.- The Caldwell University baseball team swept a conference double header against Nyack College in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference action. The Cougars took the opener 3-2 and won the nightcap 17-6.

The Cougars improve to 5-1 on the season and 3-0 in the CACC, while the Warriors fall to 0-3 and 0-3 in conference play.

In the opener, Caldwell got on the board in the opening inning Junior
Frank Lehmann (Colonia, N.J.) drew a leadoff walk and eventually came around to score on a balk later in the inning.

Senior
Tavis Brunson (Westfield, N.J.) drove in a run with a single in the second, while senior
Jack Zosulis (East Windsor, N.J.) tacked on a run with a run scoring single in the third.

Nyack rallied in the seventh with a pair of runs but senior
Tom Disch (Branchburg, N.J.) closed the door on the rally to earn his first save of the season.

Jack Anderson (Nyack, N.Y.) tossed four scoreless and hitless innings, striking out five to earn the win.

In the nightcap, Zosulis got the scoring started in the opening inning with a two-run single as part of a five-run rally. Brunson, junior
Jalen March (Baltimore, Md.) and freshman
Noah Putney (Glassboro, N.J.) followed with RBI singles in the inning.

Zosulis added a run scoring triple in the second, while junior
Kyle Richards (Sayreville, N.J.) added an RBI single in the inning.

The Cougars added two runs in the third and broke the game open with eight runs in the fifth. Freshman
Chris Dorta (Sunrise, Fla.) had the key hit in the inning with a three-run double. Brunson also drove in a pair of runs with a two-run inside the park homerun in the inning.

In game two, Zosulis went 2-for-3 with three runs scored and three RBI. Richards went 3-for-3, while Dorta finished with a 1-for-2 game and three RBI. Brunson collected two hits in three at-bats with two runs scored and three RBI.

John Istvan (Dover, N.J.) pitched five scoreless innings, allowing three hits and struck out six to earn the win.

The Cougars travel to University of the Sciences for a CACC doubleheader on Wednesday, March 31 at noon. Â
