CALDWELL, N.J.- Caldwell University men's basketball junior
Anthony Cooper (Ashburn, Va.) and senior
Manley Dorme (Nanuet, N.Y.) each netted 15 points as the Cougars downed Bloomfield College for their season straight win 73-52 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference contest.
The Cougars improve to 2-1 on the season and 2-1 in the CACC, while the Bears fall to 2-2 overall and in conference play.
The teams traded leads over the first six minutes with Bloomfield holding at 10-9 lead at the 14:18 mark. The Cougars pulled away with a 20-5 run as Cooper, freshman
Jarnel Rancy (Middle Island, N.Y.) and sophomore
Marcellus Ross (Sicklerville, N.J.) each netted four points in the run. Ross capped the run with a pair of free throws with 3:59 left in the half for a 29-15 lead.
The Bears closed the gap to nine points in the final minute but sophomore
Gabe Johnson (Bloomfield, N.J.) drained a triple in the waning seconds to give the Cougars a 34-22 halftime advantage.
Caldwell got off to fast start in the second half as Johnson, Ross and Cooper each connected on three-pointers over the first six minutes to extend their lead to 47-29. The Cougars maintained a double-digit lead the rest of the way for their second consecutive victory.
Dorme posted a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds, while Cooper totaled 15 points, four boards, three assists and two steals. Johnson netted 13 points, five rebounds and two steals, while Ross added 13 points, four boards and two steals. Graduate
Gerald Blount (Jersey City, N.J.) led the team with 11 rebounds in the win.
