CALDWELL, N.J.- Caldwell University men's basketball senior
Manley Dorme (Nanuet, N.Y.) led a trio of scorers in double figures as the Cougars pulled away late from Bloomfield College for their first win of the season. The Cougars downed the Bears 81-71 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference contest.
The Cougars improve to 1-1 on the season and 1-1 in the CACC, while the Bears fall to 2-1 overall and in conference play.
The Bears pulled ahead 6-2 over the first three minutes of the game. The Cougars battled back as they took a seven point lead midway through the half. Junior
Anthony Cooper (Ashburn, Va.) netted eight points in the run including converting a three-point play and adding a trifecta. Dorme posted four points, while freshman
Ty-Shon Pannell (Central Islip, N.Y.) added five points including a triple to put Caldwell up 27-20 at the 9:59 mark.
Caldwell extended their lead to 42-30 with 2:34 remaining in the half. Bloomfield rallied late to cut the score to 42-41 at halftime.
Bloomfield pushed ahead to start the second half as they led by as much as four points over the first six minutes. Caldwell rallied back as they pulled even at 62 with 8:00 left in the game.
The Cougars took control with an 11-0 run capped by a Dorme trifecta at the 4:09 mark to give Caldwell a 73-62 lead. Caldwell held off the Bears down the stretch to secure their first win of the season.
Dorme led the way with 19 points and four rebounds. Cooper tallied 17 points, five boards, three assists and two steals. Graduate
Gerald Blount (Jersey City, N.J.) added 10 points and nine rebounds, while sophomore
Gabe Johnson (Bloomfield, N.J.) finished with nine points, five boards, five assists and two steals.
