Women’s Basketball Comes Up Short to Nyack

JERSEY CITY, N.J.- The Caldwell University women's basketball team fell to Nyack College 56-53 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference contest.
 
The Cougars fall to 2-4 overall and 2-4 in the CACC, while the Warriors improve to 2-4 overall and 2-4 in conference play.
 
The teams traded leads throughout the first quarter before the Warriors pulled ahead 13-7 earlier in the second quarter. The Cougars rallied back with a 12-3 run to pull ahead by three points late in the quarter.
 
Junior Shadajah Thomas (Plainfield, N.J.) netted four points in the run, while junior Ana Martin Gonzalez (Toledo, Spain) capped the run with a bucket at the 2:46 mark for a 19-16 lead. Nyack tied the score at 21 late in the quarter but freshman Jennifer Damoah (Montreal, Quebec, Canada/St. John College) drained a three-pointer in the final seconds for a 24-21 Caldwell lead at halftime.
 
Nyack pulled ahead by four points early in the third quarter at 29-25. Caldwell battled back with a 12-5 run to take a three-point lead. Gonzalez Martin drained a triple in the run, while Thomas capped the run with a jumper to put the Cougars up 37-34.
 
The Warriors retook a two-point lead late in the quarter and the teams traded leads into the fourth quarter. Nyack pushed ahead 54-49 with 3:20 left in the game and held the lead down the stretch.
 
Gonzalez Martin led the way with 14 points and three rebounds, while Thomas finished with 10 points and five boards. Damoah added eight points and three boards, while sophomore Halle Brown (Downingtown, Pa.) grabbed eight rebounds.
 
The Cougars host Bloomfield College in a CACC contest on Thursday, February 18 at 6 pm. The game will be streamed on the CACC Network at caccnetwork.com.
