Women’s Basketball Falls to Regionally Ranked Saint Anselm

ORANGEBURG, N.Y.- Caldwell University women's basketball junior Casey O'Shaughnessy (Brooklyn, N.Y.) dropped in 19 points as the Cougars fell short to regionally ranked Saint Anselm College 74-59 to close out play at the Regina Rivera Memorial Tournament hosted by Dominican College.

The Cougars fall to 3-2 overall, while the Hawks improve to 3-2.

The teams battled through a back and forth opening quarter with Saint Anselm building a 31-18 late in the second quarter. The Cougars closed the half on a 10-4 run with senior Paula Dits (Alicante, Spain) and graduate Shanice Graves (Brooklyn, N.Y.) connecting on trifectas to close the gap to 35-28 at halftime.

Caldwell rallied back to start the second half as a 16-4 run over the first seven minutes of the third quarter propelled them into the lead. O'Shaughnessy drained a triple in the run, while junior Rebecca Morrison (Ayrshire, Scotland) connected on a pair from downtown, totaling nine points in the run to give the Cougars a 44-37 lead at the 3:18 mark of the third quarter.

The Hawks rallied back and they retook the lead, pushing ahead by double digits early in the fourth quarter. Junior Halle Brown (Downingtown, Pa.) drained back-to-back trifectas to close the gap to five points but Saint Anselm went on a late run to hold off the Cougars down the stretch.

O'Shaughnessy led the Cougars with 19 points, five rebounds and four assists, while Morrison tallied 14 points, four rebounds and one block. Brown finished with nine points and six boards.

The Cougars travel to Mercy College for a non-conference contest on Tuesday, November 23 at 5 pm.
