Strong Start Not Enough for Sprint Football in Setback to Penn

PHILADELPHIA, Pa.- The Caldwell University sprint football got on the board first but it was not enough as the Cougars fell to the University of Pennsylvania 40-10 in a Collegiate Sprint Football League contest.
 
The Cougars drop their first game of the season as they fall to 4-1, while the Quakers improve to 4-1.
 
Caldwell struck first as junior Frank DeMaio (Nutley, N.J.) tossed a 10-yard touchdown pass to junior Jeremy Colon (Union City, N.J.) to put the Cougars ahead 7-0 after the opening quarter.
 
The Quakers answered with three touchdowns in the second quarter to pull ahead 21-7. Sophomore George Escobar (Belleville, N.J.) booted 32-yard field goal to end the first half as the Cougars trailed 21-10 at the break.
 
Penn added three touchdowns in the second half, while the Quake defense came the Cougars off the board over the final 30 minutes.
 
DeMaio tossed for 180 yards in the air on 11-for-21 passing and one touchdown. Senior Carl Watson (Newark, N.J.) led the Cougar rushing attack with 14 carries for 46 yards. Colon finished with three receptions for 64 yards and one score. Sophomore Zaheir Mitchell (Wallington, N.J.) added three catches for 51 yards, while sophomore Jared Montoya (Union City, N.J.) posted four receptions for 51yards.
 
Senior Anthony Guarino (Tinton Falls, N.J.) led the Caldwell defense with seven tackles, while freshman Donnell Doster (Rahway, N.J.) totaled seven tackles and two sacks.
 
The Cougars host Army West Points in a pivotal CSFL North Division match-up on Friday, October 29 at 7 pm at James Caldwell High School.
