Watson Tops 100 Rushing Yards, Defense Shines as Sprint Football Sets Program Wins Record in Victory over Chestnut Hill

WEST CALDWELL, N.J.- Caldwell University sprint football senior Carl Watson (Newark, N.J.) topped 100 yards on the ground, while the defense shined in the Cougars 24-3 win over Chestnut Hill College in a Collegiate Sprint Football League contest.

The Cougars post their third win to start the season and set the program wins record as they improve to 3-0. The Griffins drop to 1-3 on the season.

The teams played through a scoreless opening quarter before the Griffins broke through with a field goal early in the second quarter.

Caldwell answered on their ensuing possession as Watson had a key 14-yard run on a 3rd-and-9 to keep the drive alive. Junior Frank DeMaio (Nutley, N.J.) capped the 11-play, 66-yard drive with a nine-yard touchdown toss to freshman Gennaro Longobardi (Nutley, N.J.) to take a 7-3 lead into halftime.

The Cougars added to their lead early in the fourth quarter as Watson found pay dirt from 15-yard out to cap a 9-play, 65-yard drive and push their lead to 14-3. Sophomore George Escobar (Belleville, N.J.) added a 27-yard field goal with 2:31 left in the game.

Caldwell freshman Andrew Conklin (Long Branch, N.J.) recorded an interception with just over two minute to play to set up the Cougars offense deep in Chestnut Hill territory. Sophomore Rahmeir McGraw (Prospect Park, N.J.) scored the final touchdown of the game on a two-yard run with under a minute to play.

DeMaio tossed for 114 yards in the air with one touchdown and rushed for 31 yards on the ground. Watson topped 100 yards with 121 on the ground and one score, while catching one pass for six yards. Junior Jeremy Colon (Union City, N.J.) hauled in three passes for 80 yards.
