Caldwell's Unsung Cougars: Men's Soccer Adam Manger '99

Throughout the fall, the Caldwell University Athletic Department will be highlighting its Unsung Cougars from the past. Over the coming weeks, CaldwellAthletics.com will recognize these Unsung Cougars and share their memories from their time at Caldwell. Our first Unsung Cougar is Men's Soccer alum Adam Manger '99.

What is your favorite memory/game during your playing career?
My favorite memory/game during my playing career was in my junior year, we played at Nyack in the CACC tournament semi-final and won! I remember it being a close, physical game in front of a big home crowd (It might have been a homecoming game for them as well!?). To have an opportunity to play in the finals after such a hard fought road match was extremely satisfying for the entire team.

Why did you choose Caldwell?
I wanted to continue playing soccer at a high level after high school and believed I had a strong chance to start my freshman year at Caldwell.

What made Caldwell special to you?
Caldwell provided an intimate academic learning setting where you weren't just a number, but an active part of each class. Also, being a smaller school, there was a strong sense of community between students.

Name a favorite class or professor/advisor/staff member and how they had a positive impact on you during your time at Caldwell.
I don't think I can name just one favorite class or staff member that had a positive impact on me during my time at Caldwell because everyone I encountered there influenced my overall experience and helped to shape and develop my growth as I transitioned into a working professional.

What is your current occupation?
Currently, I am in the process of a changing career paths, studying to obtain my certification as a Project Management Professional. Prior to this, I was in hospitality with the Marriott Corporation.

Who is the toughest opponent you played against and why?
Without a doubt Post University (which was called Teikyo Post University when I was at Caldwell) was by far my/our toughest opponent. I think we were winless against them during my career at Caldwell, including a devastating loss in the CACC finals my junior year. For some reason they always seemed to have our number, no matter how well we played!

What piece of advice would you have for current CU student-athletes?
Appreciate your time at Caldwell and take advantage of the wonderful opportunities that are presented to you there and apply the same hard work and passion that you give to your sport as you would to your studies.

What would you say were your greatest athletic and academic accomplishments during your time at Caldwell?
My greatest athletic and academic accomplishment during my time at Caldwell would be balancing both responsibilities leading up to graduation. Being a student athlete means you have to accountable for the pair and devote an equal amount of time in order to be successful.

How did your athletic involvement aid in the path that you chose following graduation?
In wanting to pursue a career in sports, I was able to transition from a student athlete to a business professional in the sports industry. I applied many of the lessons that I had learned from being an athlete along with the business education I received to become a successful member of the New Jersey Devils organization.

How have your teammates or coach impacted your experience at Caldwell and beyond?
The comradery that formed between me and my teammates was everlasting. I learned many lifelong lessons from both my coaches and my teammates including teamwork, commitment, and perseverance. These student athlete attributes have become a part of who I am today.
