Women’s Basketball Cruises Past Wilmington

CALDWELL, N.J.- Caldwell University women's basketball freshman Rebecca Morrison (Ayrshire, Scotland) netted a game-high 24 points as the Cougars cruised past Wilmington University 80-65 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference contest. 
 
The Cougars improve to 6-17 overall and 6-8 in the CACC, while the Wildcats drop to 4-18 and 4-10 in conference play.
 
Caldwell rolled out to a 12-3 lead over the first four minutes as graduate Alessia Smaldone (Malnate, Italy) netted four points. Morrison added six points and capped the run with a bucket at the 6:16 mark. The Wildcats ripped off seven straight points to close the gap to 12-10 midway through the opening quarter.
 
The Cougars pulled away with a 15-2 run to push their lead into double digits. Senior Tina Lebron (Manalapan, N.J.) drained three trifectas in the run, while sophomore Paula Dits (Alicante, Spain) capped the run with a bucket at the 1:32 mark for a 27-12 lead.
 
Wilmington got as close as nine points midway through the second quarter but Caldwell closed the half strong. Morrison paced a 17-4 run over the final six minutes of the half with eight points. Freshman Halle Brown (Downingtown, Pa.) connected on a three-pointer with under a minute to play to help the Cougars take a 53-31 lead at halftime.
 
Caldwell maintained a double-digit lead throughout the second half on their way to the win.
 
Morrison led the way with a career-high 24 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. Lebron shot 5-for-7 from downtown as she finished with 15 points, two boards and two steals. Dits added 13 points and eight rebounds, while Smaldone tallied nine points, six rebounds and nine assists. Brown totaled eight points, eight boards, six assists and three steals.

Lebron moved into second place on the school's all-time three-point record list passing alumnus Kristen Drogsler's 223 as she finished the game with 226 career triples. 
 
The Cougars travel to Concordia College for a CACC contest on Wednesday, February 12 at 5:00 pm.
