Men’s Lacrosse Wins Program Opener Over American International

SPRINGFIELD, Mass.- The Caldwell University men's lacrosse team competed in their first game in program history and scored an 11-4 victory over American International College on Saturday afternoon. Saturday's game marks the season and program opener for the Cougars and the program's first victory.

The Cougars open their season at 1-0, while the Yellow Jackets fall to 2-3.

American International jumped on the board with two early goals over the first six minutes. Caldwell battled back as freshman Brandon Ludwig (Cortland, N.Y.) netted back-to-back goals to even the score at two with 2:43 left in the first quarter. Ludwig etched a spot in the record book with the first goal in program history.

The Yellow Jackets retook the lead with a goal early in the second quarter but the Cougars answered with three goals to close the half. Freshman Owen Healey (Washington, N.J.) tied the game at three with 7:17 remaining in the half. Freshman Michael Brown (Glenolden, Pa.) tallied two goals late in the second quarter to help the Cougars hold a 5-3 lead at halftime.

The Cougars added to their halftime advantage in the third quarter as Brown added two goals, while Healey and freshman Kevin Albright (Mays Landing, N.J.) extended their lead to 9-3.

The Yellow Jackets tallied a goal in the fourth quarter but graduate Chris Snow (Ledgewood, N.J.) added a goal, while Brown netted his fifth goal of the day.

Freshman Tim Livingston (Holtsville, N.Y.) played all 60 minutes in net and recorded 14 saves to earn the program's first win as a goalie.

The Cougars return to action as they travel to New York Tech for a non-conference contest on Wednesday, March 4 at 3 pm.
