RUTHERFORD, N.J.- Caldwell University men's basketball senior
Vaughn Covington (Sicklerville, N.J.) netted 23 points as the Cougars fell to Felician University 104-91 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference contest.
The Cougars fall to 12-14 and 8-10 in the CACC, while the Golden Falcons improve to 12-14 and 10-8 in conference play.
The teams traded leads early on, as sophomore
Anthony Cooper (Ashburn, Va.) drained three free throws at the 16:48 mark to tie the score at 8-8. Felician pushed ahead by 10 points with 6:53 left in the half but the Cougars battled back. Caldwell rallied back with a 10-2 run as Covington and senior
Ned Ogoemesim (Westampton, N.J.) connected on three-pointers. Junior
Manley Dorme (Nanuet, N.Y.) capped the run with a bucket at the 4:19 mark to trim the score to 34-32.
The Golden Falcons closed the half with a late run to pull ahead 48-36 at halftime.
Felician led by double-digits most of the second half as they held an 81-61 lead at the midway point. Caldwell made one final run with a 13-0 run to cut the score seven points. Freshman
Marcellus Ross (Sicklerville, N.J.) drained a triple, while freshman
Gabe Johnson (Bloomfield, N.J.) book-ended the run with trifectas to trim the score to 81-74 with 7:52 left in the game. The Golden Falcons pushed their lead back to double digits and held off the Cougars down the stretch.
Covington led the way with 23 points, five rebounds and three assists, while senior
Ruud Lutterman (Dalem, Netherlands) added 22 points and eight boards. Cooper finished with 14 points and three assists, while Dorme netted 11 points.
The Cougars closes out their season on Saturday, February 29 at 3 pm as they host Bloomfield College for a CACC contest on senior day.
