CALDWELL, N.J.- Caldwell University women's basketball freshman
Rebecca Morrison (Ayrshire, Scotland) posted a double-double as the Cougars fell to Dominican College 77-69 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference contest.
The Cougars fall to 7-19 overall and 7-10 in the CACC, while the Chargers improve to 13-13 and 11-6 in conference play.
Caldwell jumped out to a double-digit lead midway through the opening quarter. Morrison and freshman
Halle Brown (Downingtown, Pa.) each drained first quarter triples to help the Cougars pull ahead 19-8 at the 4:47 mark.
Dominican battled back as they trimmed the score down to 27-26 with 6:29 remaining in the second quarter. The Cougars answered as they pushed ahead by eight points late in the half. Senior
Tina Lebron (Manalapan, N.J.) connected on a triple at the 1:42 mark to put the Cougars ahead 40-32 as they held a 42-37 lead at halftime.
The Chargers tied the game at 52 late in the third quarter but sophomore
Paula Dits (Alicante, Spain) connected on a jumper to put Caldwell back up two. Dominican surged ahead by eight points early the fourth quarter. The Cougars closed the gap to three points late in the game but the Chargers hit five free throws in the final minute.
Morrison posted a double-double with 18 points and 13 boards along with two steals. Dits tallied 21 points, nine rebounds and three assists, while graduate
Alessia Smaldone (Malnate, Italy) added nine points, nine assists, four steals and four boards. Brown netted eight points, while Lebron finished with six points and four steals.
The Cougars travel to Felician University for a CACC contest on Wednesday, February 26 at 5:30 pm.
