PHILADELPHIA, Pa.- The Caldwell University women's basketball team fell to Chestnut Hill College 57-46 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference contest.
The Cougars fall to 3-15 overall and 3-6 in the CACC, while the Griffins improve to 6-11 and 5-3 in conference play.
Caldwell jumped out to an early lead but the Griffins pulled even at seven midway through the opening quarter. The Cougars rallied with a 13-4 run to pull ahead by nine points. Freshman
Halle Brown (Downingtown, Pa.) drained a three-pointer and added a bucket, while sophomore
Paula Dits (Alicante, Spain) netted four points in the run. Freshman
Rebecca Morrison (Ayrshire, Scotland) capped the run with a jumper at the 7:21 mark of the second quarter to put the Cougars ahead 20-11.
The Griffins battled back over the final seven minutes of the half and scored at the buzzer to tie the score at 25 at the break.
Chestnut Hill surged ahead to start the second half with four three-pointers as they built at 39-32 late in the third quarter. Caldwell closed the gap to 45-40 following a three-pointer by senior
Tina Lebron (Manalapan, N.J.) at the 6:02 mark. The Griffins pushed ahead by nine points and held off the Cougars down the stretch.
Brown led the way with 13 points, shooting 3-for-4 from downtown. Graduate
Alessia Smaldone (Malnate, Italy) added 11 points, four rebounds, four assists and three steals. Morrison totaled 10 points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals, while Lebron finished with eight points and five boards.
The Cougars host Felician University for a CACC contest on Tuesday, January 21 at 5:30 pm.
