NEW HAVEN, Conn.- The Caldwell University women's volleyball team split a pair of matches in a tri-match hosted by Southern Connecticut State University. The Cougars earned their first win of the season with a 3-2 win over Assumption College and fell to host SCSU 3-0.
The Cougars move to 1-2 on the season.
In their opening match win against Assumption, Caldwell took the first two sets 25-14 and 25-13. The Greyhounds battled back to even the match with 25-16 and 25-23 win in the next two sets. Caldwell won the final set 15-7 to take the match.
Sophomore
Elise Smith (O'Fallon, Ill.) led the way with 19 kills and 10 digs in the win. Senior
Katie Compagno (Orland, Ill.) added 10 kills and three total blocks, while freshman
Victoria Marquez (Humble, Texas) tallied 10 kills, three aces and eight digs.
Sophomore
Olivia Bellamy (Davison, Mich.) totaled eight digs and two total blocks, while sophomore
Humiko Stormer (Luckey, Ohio) finished with 17 digs. Sophomore
Samantha Ashton (Colonia, N.J.) chipped in 39 assists and 18 digs.
The Cougars fell to host Southern Connecticut St to close out their day in three sets. The Owls won the match 25-23, 26-24 and 25-18.
Smith totaled 12 kills and seven digs, while Junior
Chloe Kissner (Seabrook, Texas) added eight kills, two blocks and four digs. Marquez finished with eight kills and eight digs.
Compagno posted six kills and two blocks, while Ashton recorded 22 assists and seven digs. Stormer totaled 18 digs.
The Cougars travel to the Bentley University for four matches next weekend. Caldwell faces East Stroudsburg and Molloy College on Friday, September 13 and take on host Bentley and Rollins College on Saturday, September 14.
