FAIRMONT, W.V.- Caldwell University women's soccer junior
Jordan Madrid (Cherry Hill, N.J.) netted a second half goal to propel the Cougars to 1-0 victory over Fairmont State University in their season opener. The Cougars win their first season opening victory since the 2013 season.
The Cougars open their season at 1-0, while the Fighting Falcons fall to 0-1.
The teams battled to a scoreless first half with Fairmont State holding the advantage in shots 7-2.
Caldwell broke through in the 60th minute as Madrid netted the lone goal of the game to put the Cougars in the lead. Sophomore keeper
Jamie-Lee Bamford (Braintree, United Kingdom) made three saves over the final 15 minutes including one with just seconds left in the game to secure the win.
Bamford posted seven saves in the game. The Cougars posted a victory despite being outshot 15-5 in the game.
The Cougars wrap up their West Virginia trip on Sunday, September 8 as they travel to Davis and Elkins College for an 11 am start time.
