EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa.- The Caldwell University women's volleyball team split two matches to close out play at the East Stroudsburg University Tournament. The Cougars defeated Southern Connecticut State University 3-0 and fell to host ESU 3-1.
The Cougars move to 3-9 on the season.
In their opening match against Southern Connecticut St., the Cougars swept past the Owls 25-14, 25-17 and 25-19. Junior
Chloe Kissner (Seabrook, Texas) led the way with 10 kills and six digs. Sophomore
Elise Smith (O'Fallon, Ill.) tallied eight kills, two aces, two blocks and 10 digs, while senior
Katie Compagno (Orland, Ill.) finished with three kills and five blocks.
Junior
Marina Schalepfer (Aurora, Colo.) totaled seven kills, two aces, three blocks and eight digs. Sophomore
Samantha Ashton (Colonia, N.J.) recorded 22 assists and eight digs.
Caldwell wrapped up the tournament with a 3-1 loss to host ESU. The Warriors won the first two sets 25-5 and 25-14. The Cougars took the third set 25-18 before falling 25-13 in the fourth set.
Schalaepfer led Caldwell with nine kills and four digs, while Smith totaled seven kills and seven digs. Kissner added three kills, while Ashton finished with 14 assists and four digs. Sophomore
Lisbeth Suarez (Bogota, N.J.) posted nine digs.
The Cougars return to conference play as they travel to Dominican College on Tuesday, September 24 for a 7 pm match.
