EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa.- The Caldwell University women's volleyball team fell in two matches on day one of the East Stroudsburg University Tournament. The Cougars lost to West Chester University 3-0 and fell to Stonehill College 3-1.
The Cougars fall to 2-8 on the season. The Rams improve to 10-0, while the Skyhawks improve to 6-1.
In their opening match against West Chester, the Rams defeated the Cougars 25-19, 25-23 and 25-19. Senior
Katie Compagno (Orland, Ill.) led the way with seven kills and one block, while junior
Chloe Kissner (Seabrook, Texas) added six kills.
Sophomore
Elise Smith (O'Fallon, Ill.) totaled six kills and four digs, while sophomore
Humiko Stormer (Luckey, Ohio) contributed 12 digs. Sophomore
Samantha Ashton (Colonia, N.J.) netted 20 assists and four digs.
Caldwell closed out the first day with a 3-1 loss to Stonehill. The Skyhawks took the opening set 29-27 but the Cougars won the second set 26-24. Stonehill won the next two sets 25-18 and 25-18 to win the match.
Kissner led the way with 12 kills and six digs. Smith chipped in eight kills and five digs, while freshman
Cassandra Rother (Fresno, Calif.) posted seven kills and three aces.
Compagno totaled six kills, while Stormer finished with 12 digs and two aces. Ashton tallied 29 assists and six digs.
The Cougars wrap up play at ESU Tournament on Saturday, September 21 as they face Southern Connecticut State University at 6 pm and the host Warriors at 8 pm.
