CALDWELL, N.J.- The Caldwell University softball team split a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader with Chestnut Hill College on Sunday. The Griffins took the opener 7-4, while the Cougars won the nightcap 12-8.
The Cougars move to 18-14 overall and 11-3 in the CACC, while the Griffins stand at 10-18 and 5-9 in conference play.
Caldwell took the early lead in game one as they scored three in the second inning. The Cougars got a key two-run triple from freshman
Nora Conway (Chicago, Ill.) in the inning. Junior
Christina Misiur (Sayreville, N.J.) hit a solo homerun in the third for a 4-0 lead.
The Griffins rallied over the final four innings with seven runs to take the opener.

Sara Bearden (Ewing, N.J.) took the loss as she tossed 4 1/3 innings, allowing five runs on five hits with six strikeouts.
In the nightcap, Chestnut Hill got a run in the second to take a 1-0 lead. Caldwell rallied back in their half of the inning with four runs. The Cougars loaded the bases with one out as sophomore
Paige Sandoval (Aliso Viejo, Calif.) and freshman
Anyssia Ramirez (Brentwood, Calif.) and freshman
Alaina Zavala (San Diego, Calif.) walked. Conway drew a walk for force in a run, while senior
Carly Testa (Sicklerville, N.J.) drove in a run with a ground out. Sophomore
Maya Rodriguez (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) doubled in a pair of runs for a 4-1 lead.
The Griffins tied the game at four with three runs in the third inning. Sandoval put the Cougars back in front with a two-run homerun in the third for a 6-4 lead.
Chestnut Hill battled back to tie the game at six with two runs in the fourth. Caldwell answered in the fifth as Ramirez hit a two-run homerun. The Cougars added four in the sixth as Rodriguez and Misiur each had run scoring singles. Ramirez and Zavala each drew bases loaded walks to force in a run. The Griffins added two in the seventh but freshman
Mariah Culver (Owego, N.Y.) closed the door on the rally.
Culver (8-8) tossed five innings in relief, allowing four unearned runs on five hits and four strikeouts.
The Cougars host Nyack College in a CACC twin bill Tuesday, April 9 at 2:30 p.m. at Caldwell Field.
