CALDWELL, N.J.- The Caldwell University softball team split a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader against Nyack College. The Warriors took the opener 10-7, while the Cougars captured the nightcap 11-3 in six innings.

The Cougars stand at 19-15 overall and 12-4 in the CACC, while the Warriors move to 12-23 and 9-9 in conference play.

Nyack got on the board with a run in the first inning. The Cougars got a three-spot in the first as sophomore
Kaileen Cain (Hauppauge, N.Y.) singled in a run, while sophomore
Paige Sandoval (Aliso Viejo, Calif.) doubled in two runs.

The Warriors scored five runs in the second to take a 6-3 lead. Sophomore
Maya Rodriguez (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) connected on a solo homerun to cut the score to 6-4 in the third.

Nyack added three runs in the fourth inning to push ahead 9-4. Sophomore
Anyssia Ramirez (Brentwood, Calif.) singled in two runs in the fifth, while Cain tripled in two runs in the sixth as part of a 4-for-4 game one. Ramirez went 3-for-4 in the opener.

Mariah Culver (Owego, N.Y.) tossed 3 1/3 innings, allowing eight runs (two earned) on four hits to fall to 8-9. Junior
Sara Bearden (Ewing, N.J.) pitched 3 2/3 innings in relief, allowing two runs (one earned) on six hits with nine strikeouts.

Caldwell took the lead in the nightcap as Rodriguez doubled in a run in the third. The Cougars added a run on an error in the fourth, while freshman
Nora Conway (Chicago, Ill.) drove in two runs with a double in the inning.

Sara Raubertas (Berlin, N.J.) singled in a run in the fifth, while Ramirez scored on a wild pitch later in the inning. Conway doubled in a run in the inning, while Cain drew a bases loaded walk to force in a run.

The Cougars added two runs in the sixth as junior
Daniela Solis (Wilmington, Del.) doubled in a run in the inning. Conway ended the game with a triple to score Solis.

Jessie Johnston (Livermore, Calif.) earned the win as she tossed 4 1/3 innings, allowing three runs on seven hits with two strikeouts. Bearden picked up her first save of the season as she tossed 1 2/3 scoreless innings with two strikeouts.
