CALDWELL, N.J.- The Caldwell University softball teams blasted two grand slams as the Cougars swept Holy Family University in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference twin bill. The Cougars won the opener 17-7 in six innings and took the nightcap 9-1 in five innings.

The Cougars improve 17-13 overall and 10-2 in the CACC, while the Tigers drop to 2-28 and 2-12 in conference play.

Caldwell scored six runs over the first two innings as sophomore
Maya Rodriguez (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) drove in the first run with a groundout. Junior
Christina Misiur (Sayreville, N.J.) doubled in a run for a 2-0 first inning lead.

The Cougars added four runs in the second as Rodriguez drove in a run on a fielder's choice. Misiur doubled in a pair of runs, while sophomore
Kaileen Cain (Hauppauge, N.Y.) added a run scoring double.

The Tigers got a run in the fourth but Caldwell answered with a six-run inning. Senior
Carly Testa (Sicklerville, N.J.) singled, while Misiur and Cain were hit by a pitch to load the bases. Sophomore
Paige Sandoval (Aliso Viejo, Calif.) blasted a grand slam homerun for a 10-1 lead. Caldwell loaded the bases again in the inning with Testa driving in a pair of runs with a single.

Holy Family battled back to cut the score to 12-7 in the sixth inning.

Freshman
Nora Conway (Chicago, Ill.) doubled in a run, while Testa added a run scoring single. Junior
Jessie Johnston (Livermore, Calif.) ended the game with a three-run homerun.

Sara Bearden (Ewing, N.J.) tossed 4 1/3 innings, allowing six runs on eight hits to improve to 9-4. Freshman
Mariah Culver (Owego, N.Y.) earned the save in relief, recording the final two outs in the sixth.

In the nightcap, Testa drove in a run in the first inning on a fielder's choice. Caldwell added seven runs in the second inning as freshman
Anyssia Ramirez (Brentwood, Calif.) doubled in a run. Freshman
Alaina Zavala (San Diego, Calif.) and Conway added run scoring singled. Rodriguez hit the team's second grand slam of the day to push their lead to 8-0. The Cougars added a run on a Tiger error in the third.

Culver tossed a complete game, allowing one run on two hits to improve to 7-8.

The Cougars host Chestnut Hill College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference twin bill Sunday, April 7 at noon  at Caldwell Field.
