WATERBURY, Conn.- The Caldwell University baseball team split a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader against North Division leader Post University. The Eagles took the opener 26-6, while the Cougars won the nightcap 11-8.

The Cougars move to 8-15 on the season and 6-8 in the CAC, while the Eagles stand at 11-13 and 9-5 in conference play.

After Post scored 15 runs in the first inning, the Cougars rallied with a three-run second inning. Caldwell loaded the bases as junior
Jack Zosulis (East Windsor, N.J.) doubled with two outs. Junior
Tavis Brunson (Westfield, N.J.) drew a walk, while freshman
Frank Lehmann (Colonia, N.J.) reached on an error to load the bases. Junior
Dhillon Barbetti (West Long Branch, N.J.) was hit by a pitch for force in a run. Junior
Luis Rullan (Bloomfield, N.J.) doubled in two runs for the Cougars.

Caldwell added a run in the fourth on a Barbetti run scoring ground out. The Cougars tacked on two runs in the third as junior
Dylan Walicky (Belleville, N.J.) singled in two runs.

In the nightcap, Caldwell got on the board in the first inning. Barbetti led off the inning with a double. Senior
Anthony Parente (Jackson, N.J.) and senior
Mason Marino (Brooklyn, N.Y.) drew walks to load the bases. Zosulis walked with two outs to force in the first run of the game.

Post rallied back with four runs over the first four innings to take a 4-1 lead.

The Cougars battled back with an eight-run fifth inning. Caldwell loaded the bases with one out as Rullan singled, Parente was hit by a pitch and red-shirt freshman
Mike Airey (Millville, N.J.) singled. Junior
Michael Calabrese (Toms River, N.J.) was hit by a pitch to force in a run, while Zosulis followed with a sacrifice fly.

Brunson drove in a pair of runs with a triple, while junior
Joseph Mitchell (Bogota, N.J.) added a run scoring single. Rullan drove in a run with a single and the Cougars took advantage of an error and passed ball in the inning to score two more runs. Caldwell added two runs in the sixth as Mitchell singled in a run. Brunson stole home later in the inning.

Post rallied with four runs in the sixth inning but the Cougar bullpen closed the door.

Senior
Anthony Frascati (Bloomfield, N.J.) earned the win in relief, tossing 1 2/3 innings, allowing four runs on four hits with three strikeouts. Junior
Michael Hess (Valley Cottage, N.Y.) pitched a scoreless seventh inning with two strikeouts to earn his first save of the season.

The Cougars host Post University for a CACC twin bill on Friday, April 5 at noon at the Kiwanis Oval.
