Zosulis Homers, Drives in Six as Baseball Splits Concordia

BRONXVILLE, N.Y.- Caldwell University baseball junior Jack Zosulis (East Windsor, N.J.) homered and drove in six runs as the Cougars split a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader against Concordia College. The Clippers took the opener 22-12, while the Cougars won the nightcap 9-5 in five innings.
 
The Cougars move to 14-25 overall and 12-18 in the CACC, while the Clippers stand at 12-33 and 7-23.
 
In the opener, Caldwell got on the board in the opening inning as senior Anthony Parente (Jackson, N.J.) singled with two outs. Freshman Jalen March (Baltimore, Md.) and junior Tavis Brunson (Westfield, N.J.) drew walks to load the bases. Zosulis drove in a pair of runs with a single.
 
Concordia got six runs in the second inning to pull ahead 6-2. Caldwell scored a run in the third inning on an error, while Zosulus blasted a two-run homerun to cut the score to 6-5. The Clippers added three runs in their half of the inning.
 
Caldwell loaded the bases in the fourth as freshman Alejandro Mejia (Naples, Fla.) reached base on an error to start the inning. Parente singled, while March drew a walk. Zosulis singled in two runs to cut the score to slice the score to 9-7.
 
The Clippers pushed ahead with ten runs between the sixth and seventh innings. Brunson hit a solo homerun in the sixth, while freshman Dhillon Barbetti (West Long Branch, N.J.) hit a sacrifice fly in the seventh. March drew a bases loaded walk, while Mejia scored on a wild pitch later in the inning.
 
Caldwell took the early lead in the nightcap as junior Luis Rullan (Bloomfield, N.J.) drove in a run in the first inning with a single. Rullan scored later in the inning to put the Cougars up 2-0.
 
Concordia rallied back in the third as they scored three runs to pull ahead 3-2. Caldwell rallied back in the fourth as freshman Kyle Richards (Sayreville, N.J.) tied the game with a single. Freshman Frank Lehmann (Colonia, N.J.) doubled in two runs, while Rullan added a run scoring single for a 6-3 lead.
 
The Clippers added two runs in the fourth to cut the score to 6-5. Caldwell added three runs in the fifth as Brunson singled in one run. Richards added a run scoring single, while Lehmann added a run on a fielder's choice.
 
Freshman Jerry Gamone (Union, N.J.) earned the win in relief, as he tossed 1 1/3 scoreless innings, allowing one hit to improve to 4-5.  
 
The Cougars wrap up conference play as they host Wilmington University on Saturday, April 27 at noon at the Kiwanis Oval. Prior to the game, the Cougars will honor their graduating seniors.
