CALDWELL, N.J.- The Caldwell University softball team fell in a non-conference doubleheader to regionally ranked LIU Post. The Pioneers are ranked second in the most recent NCAA Division II East Region poll, while the Cougars hold the #8 spot in the region.

The Cougars fall to 27-19 overall, while the Pioneers improve to 38-8.

In the opener, the Pioneers got a run in the second and added three in the fourth inning.

Caldwell got their run in the fifth as sophomore
Anyssia Ramirez (Brentwood, Calif.) singled with one out. Ramirez moved to second on a ground out and scored on a single by junior

Sara Bearden (Ewing, N.J.) tossed a complete game, allowing four runs (three earned) on five hits to fall to 13-7.

In the nightcap, the Pioneers scored five runs in the second inning to take the early lead. Caldwell scored in the third as sophomore
Maya Rodriguez (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) led off with a single and moved to third on a double by junior
Christina Misiur (Sayreville, N.J.). Junior
Jessie Johnston (Livermore, Calif.) hit a sacrifice fly to score Rodriguez.

The Cougars battled back with five runs over the final two innings. Caldwell capitalized on an error in the sixth to score two runs in the sixth. Misiur added a solo homerun in the inning. In the seventh, freshman

Paige Sandoval (Aliso Viejo, Calif.) added a run scoring single.
