Softball Sweeps Post in CACC Twin Bill

WATERBURY, Conn.- The Caldwell University softball team swept a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference twin bill over Post University. The Cougars won the opener 2-1 and took the nightcap with a 13-2 win in six innings.
 
The Cougars improve to 27-17 overall and 16-6 in the CACC, while the Eagles fall to 15-18 and 7-11 in conference play.  
 
In the opener, the Cougars took the lead in the fourth inning on a solo homerun by sophomore Maya Rodriguez (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.). The Eagles tied the game in the fifth with a run.
 
The Cougars rallied in the seventh as senior Carly Testa (Sicklerville, N.J.) led off the inning with a single. Testa moved to second on a sacrifice bunt and scored on a single by junior Jessie Johnston (Livermore, Calif.).
 
Junior Sara Bearden (Ewing, N.J.) improved to 13-6 as she tossed a complete game, allowing one run on five hits with nine strikeouts.
 
In the nightcap, the Cougars scored two runs in the first inning to take the early lead. Rodriguez doubled with two outs, while junior Christina Misiur (Sayreville, N.J.) and Johnston walked to load the bases. Testa reached on an error to drive in two runs.
 
Post tied the game in the fifth inning with a two-run homerun to even the score to two.
 
Caldwell rallied with 11 runs in the fifth and sixth innings. The Cougars loaded the bases in the fifth as sophomore Paige Sandoval (Aliso Viejo, Calif.) and Rodriguez singled, while Misiur walked. Johnston gave the Cougars the lead with a two-run single. Caldwell added a run on an error, while freshman Kayla Daly (Babylon, N.Y.) singled in a run. Testa scored on a passed ball, while freshman Nora Conway (Chicago, Ill.) drove in a run with a ground out.
 
The Cougars added five runs in the sixth as sophomore Anyssia Ramirez (Brentwood, Calif.) blasted a three-run homerun. Conway added a two-run single in the inning.
 
Freshman Mariah Culver (Owego, N.Y.) improved to 12-10 as she tossed a complete game, allowing two runs on six hits with six strikeouts.
 
The Cougars host LIU Post in a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday, April 23 at 2:30 pm.
