CALDWELL, N.J.- Caldwell University baseball junior Michael Calabrese (Toms River, N.J.) blasted the go-ahead homerun in the opener as the Cougars split a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader against Jefferson. Caldwell won the opener 3-2 but the Rams took the nightcap 1-0 in eight innings.

The Cougars move to 11-24 overall and 9-17 in the CACC, while the Rams stand at 15-26 and 13-13 in conference play.

In the opener, the score remained tied until both teams got on the board in the sixth inning. Jefferson got two runs in the inning on a two-run two-out single to take a 2-0 lead.

Caldwell battled back in the bottom of the inning as freshman Alejandro Mejia (Naples, Fla.) singled with one out. Mejia stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Senior Anthony Parente (Jackson, N.J.) singled to score Mejia to cut the score to 2-1. Calabrese followed with a go-ahead two-run homerun to put Caldwell in front 3-2.

Junior Tom Disch (Branchburg, N.J.) earned the win, as he tossed 6 2/3 innings, allowing two runs on seven hits with two strikeouts to improve to 1-1. Senior Anthony Frascati (Bloomfield, N.J.) pitched 2 1/3 scoreless innings, striking out two to earn his second save of the season.
