Zosulis Belts Walk-Off Extra Inning Homerun in Game 1 Win as Baseball Splits Bloomfield

CALDWELL, N.J.- Caldwell University baseball junior Jack Zosulis (East Windsor, N.J.) belted a walk-off three run homerun to help the Cougars to a game one win as they split a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader against Bloomfield College. The Cougars won the opener 7-4 in 10 innings, while the Bears took the nightcap 15-0.
 
The Cougars move to 10-21 overall and 8-14 in the CACC, while the Bears stand at 11-27 and 11-11 in conference play.
 
Bloomfield took the early lead with three runs in the first inning. The Cougars rallied in the fourth inning as junior Joseph Mitchell (Bogota, N.J.) led off with a single. Zosulis tripled to right to score Mitchell for their first run of the game. Junior Luis Rullan (Bloomfield, N.J.) grounded out to score Zosulis to cut the score to 3-2.
 
Caldwell battled back in the ninth as Zosulis led off with a single. Rullan reached base on a fielder's choice. Rullan moved to second on a ground out and scored the tying run on a two-out single by freshman Alejandro Mejia (Naples, Fla.) to force extra innings.
 
Bloomfield took advantage of a Caldwell error to score a run in the top of the tenth inning. The Cougars answered in the bottom of the inning as senior Anthony Parente (Jackson, N.J.) led off with a single. Pinch runner freshman Giovanni Mattis (Davie, Fla.) advanced to second on a wild pitch and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt.
 
Junior Dylan Walicky (Belleville, N.J.) scored Mattis on a fielder's choice to tie the game. Mitchell drew a walk to put runners at first and second. Zosulis sent the Cougars off to the win with a three-run walk-off homerun down the right field line.
 
Junior Tom Disch (Branchburg, N.J.) tossed eight scoreless inning in relief, allowing six hits with five strikeouts. Senior Anthony Frascati (Bloomfield, N.J.) pitched the final two innings, allowing one unearned run on three hits with four strikeouts to earn the win.
 
In the nightcap, the Cougars were limited to three hits as the Bears took game two to earn a split.
 
The Cougars travel to the University of the Sciences for a CACC doubleheader on Saturday, April 13 at 1 p.m.
