SHIPPENSBURG, Pa.- Caldwell University softball sophomore
Paige Sandoval (Aliso Viejo, Calif.) drove in five runs as the Cougars swept Shippensburg in a non-conference doubleheader. The Cougars took the opener 5-4 and won the nightcap 6-4.

The Cougars improve to 11-13 overall, while the Raiders fall to 15-11.

In the opener, Shippensburg scored a run in the first inning to take the early lead. Caldwell rallied back over the final two innings.

Sophomore
Kaileen Cain (Hauppauge, N.Y.) doubled in the tying run for the Cougars in the sixth. Sandoval added a run scoring single to put the Cougars up 2-1. Junior
Christina Misiur (Sayreville, N.J.) extended the lead to 3-1 with a pinch hit single.

In the seventh, sophomore
Maya Rodriguez (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) and Cain singled with two outs, while junior
Jessie Johnston (Livermore, Calif.) drew a walk to load the bases. Sandoval singled in a pair of runs for a 5-1 lead.

The Raiders battled back in the seventh as they scored three runs but freshman
Mariah Culver (Owego, N.Y.) came on in relief to close the door.

Junior
Sara Bearden (Ewing, N.J.) tossed 6+ innings, allowing four runs (two earned) on nine hits, while striking out three to improve to 7-4. Culver retired all three batters she faced to earn his first collegiate save.

Carly Testa (Sicklerville, N.J.) and Cain singled, while Johnston drew a walk. Sandoval singled in two runs to give Caldwell a 2-1 lead.

The Raiders tied the game with a run in the fourth. The teams traded runs in the fifth as freshman
Lauren Stansell (Plantation, Fla.) drew a bases loaded walk to force in a run.

Caldwell took the lead in the sixth as they scored a run in a Shippensburg error. The Cougars added two runs in the seventh as junior
Daniela Solis (Wilmington, Del.) and Rodriguez both had run scoring singles.

The Raiders tacked on a run in the seventh but Culver closed the door in the final inning.

Culver (4-8) tossed a complete game, allowing four runs (two earned) on 10 hits and struck out seven.

The Cougars host Dominican College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference twin bill Tuesday, April 2 at 2:30 p.m. at Caldwell Field.
