CALDWELL, N.J.- Caldwell University softball junior
Christina Misiur (Sayreville, N.J.) drove in four runs as the Cougars swept a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader against Dominican College.
The Cougars even their record at 13-13 and improve to 6-2 in the CACC, while the Chargers fall to 10-13 and 7-3 in conference play.
Caldwell loaded the bases in the first inning as freshman
Nora Conway (Chicago, Ill.) was hit by a pitch and stole second. Sophomore
Maya Rodriguez (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) reached base on an error and sophomore
Kaileen Cain (Hauppauge, N.Y.) hit into a fielder's choice to load the bases. Sophomore
Paige Sandoval (Aliso Viejo, Calif.) singled in one run, while Misiur doubled in two runs for a 3-0 lead.
Dominican got on the board in the second as they scored a run on an error. The Cougars added two runs in the fourth. Sophomore
Anyssia Ramirez (Brentwood, Calif.) reached on an error to start the inning. Junior
Daniela Solis (Wilmington, Del.) doubled to put runners in scoring position. Rodriguez drove in a pair of runs with a single.
The Chargers closed the gap with two runs in the fifth inning to cut the score to 5-3.
Junior
Sara Bearden (Ewing, N.J.) tossed a complete game, allowing three runs (two earned) on eight hits to improve to 8-4.
In the nightcap, Caldwell got on the board in the opening inning as senior
Carly Testa (Sicklerville, N.J.) hit a solo homerun. The Cougars added two runs in the third inning. Conway doubled with one out, while Testa was hit by a pitch and Rodriguez drew a walk to load the bases. Misiur doubled in two runs for a 3-0 lead.
The Chargers got a run in the fourth but the Cougars tacked on a run in the fifth inning. Junior
Jessie Johnston (Livermore, Calif.) singled in a run to extend their lead to 4-1. The game was called in the bottom of the sixth due to darkness.
Freshman
Mariah Culver (Owego, N.Y.) pitched a complete game, allowing one unearned run on six hits with four strikeouts to improve to 5-8.
The Cougars travel to Concordia College for a CACC doubleheader Thursday, April 4 at 3 p.m.
