HOCKESSIN, Del.- The Caldwell University baseball team swept a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader against Goldey-Beacom College on Saturday. The Cougars took the opener 4-3 and completed the sweep with a 4-3 win in the nightcap.

The Cougars improve to 7-13 overall and 5-7 in the CACC, while the Lightning drop to 4-22 and 3-9 in conference play.

In the opener, Caldwell got on the board in the second inning as senior
Mason Marino (Brooklyn, N.Y.) drew a leadoff walk. Marino moved to second on a single, advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on a single by junior
Jack Zosulis (East Windsor, N.J.).

Goldey-Beacom took the lead in the middle innings with a run in the third, fifth and sixth to pull ahead 3-1.

Caldwell battled back in the seventh inning as freshman
Kyle Richards (Sayreville, N.J.) and junior
Joseph Mitchell (Bogota, N.J.) singled to start the inning. Freshman
Dhillon Barbetti (West Long Branch, N.J.) reached on a bunt single with Richards and Mitchell scoring on an error to tie the game and Barbetti moving to third. Junior
Luis Rullan (Bloomfield, N.J.) singled to center to score Barbetti for a 4-3 lead.

Freshman
Jerry Gamone (Union, N.J.) got the win to improve to 1-4 on the season. He tossed six innings, allowing three runs (one earned) on seven hits with three strikeouts. Senior
Anthony Frascati (Bloomfield, N.J.) earned his first save of the season as he pitched three scoreless innings with six strikeouts.

In the nightcap, Caldwell scored five runs in the first inning to take the early advantage. Senior
Anthony Parente (Jackson, N.J.) and junior
Tavis Brunson (Westfield, N.J.) drove in runs with singles in the inning. Zosulis drove in a run with a sacrifice fly, while Marino doubled in a pair of runs in inning.

The Lightning cut the score to 5-3 with a run in the first and two in the third inning. Caldwell added a run in the sixth on a Zosulis sacrifice fly. Goldey-Beacom added a run in the seventh but Caldwell closed the door and completed the sweep.

Junior
Tom Disch (Branchburg, N.J.) tossed the first three innings, allowing three runs (one earned) on two hits with four strikeouts. Junior
Raymond Ramos (Bloomfield, N.J.) pitched 1/3 of inning. Freshman
Frank Lehmann (Colonia, N.J.) earned the win in relief, as he pitched 3 2/3 innings, allowing one run on two hits.
