POMONA, N.Y.- Caldwell University baseball junior
Jack Zosulis (East Windsor, N.J.) and senior
Anthony Parente (Jackson, N.J.) each homered in the opening game win as the Cougars split a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader against Nyack College. Caldwell won the opener 17-10, while Nyack won the nightcap 9-0.

The Cougars moved to 5-13 overall and 3-7 in the CACC, while the Warriors move to 7-16-1 and 3-7 in conference play.

Caldwell rapped out 23 hits in the opener with all nine starters collecting at least one hit. Despite falling behind 3-0 over the first two innings, the Cougars rallied back with a four-run third inning.

The Cougars scored their first run of the game on an error, while Parente doubled in a run to cut the score to 3-2. Senior
Mason Marino (Brooklyn, N.Y.) tied the game with a ground out, while junior
Dylan Walicky (Belleville, N.J.) singled to score Parente for a 4-3 lead.

The bats came alive in the later innings as the Cougars scored five runs in the seventh and eight in the eighth.

Freshman
Dhillon Barbetti (West Long Branch, N.J.) doubled in a run in the seventh, while junior
Luis Rullan (Bloomfield, N.J.) singled in the inning. Parente blasted a three-run homerun to push their lead to 8-3. Zosulis added a run scoring single later in the inning.

In the eighth, Marino singled in a run, while junior
Joseph Mitchell (Bogota, N.J.) drove in a pair of runs with a base hit. Walicky doubled in a run, while Zosulis hit a two-run homerun. Rullan added a two-run single later in the inning.

Nyack added seven runs in the eighth but the Cougars pitching staff closed the door. Junior
Nick Cerbone (Bayonne, N.J.) earned the win, as he tossed 7 2/3 innings, allowing 10 runs (eight earned) on 11 hits. Sophomore
Anthony Trano (Moonachie, N.J.) retired all four batters he faced over the final 1 1/3 innings.
