WILMINGTON, Del.- The Caldwell University softball team opened up Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play with a twin bill sweep over Goldey-Beacom College on Tuesday. The Cougars took the opener 10-3 and won the nightcap 10-0 in five innings.

The Cougars improve to 6-10 overall and 2-0 in the CACC, while the Lightning drop to 4-10 and 2-2 in conference play.

In the opener, the Lightning took the early lead with a run in the second inning. Caldwell rallied in the third as junior
Melissa Rini (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) walked to lead off the inning. Freshman
Nora Conway (Chicago, Ill.) followed with a single. With two out, sophomore
Kaileen Cain (Hauppauge, N.Y.) doubled to tie the game at one. Senior
Carly Testa (Sicklerville, N.J.) put the Cougars in the lead with a two-run single.

Caldwell added two runs in the fourth as Conway and sophomore
Maya Rodriguez (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) posted run scoring singles. Junior
Jessie Johnston (Livermore, Calif.) added a run scoring base hit in the fifth to extend the lead to 6-2.

The Cougars tacked on four in the sixth as sophomore
Anyssia Ramirez (Brentwood, Calif.) posted a two-run triple in the inning.

Sara Bearden (Ewing, N.J.) tossed five innings, allowing two runs on six hits with eight stirikeouts to improve to 4-3.

Caldwell got on the board in the first inning in the nightcap as Testa singled in the first run of the game with two outs. The Cougars added three runs in the second as Conway ripped a two-run triple in the inning. Conway stole home later in the inning on a double steal play with sophomore
Paige Sandoval (Alisa Viejo, Calif.) swiping second.

The Cougars broke the game open in the fifth as junior
Daniela Solis (Wilmington, Del.) and freshman
Lauren Stansell (Plantation, Fla.) each drove in a pair of runs with singles. Junior
Christina Misiur (Sayreville, N.J.) doubled in one run in the inning, while freshman
Alaina Zavala (San Diego, Calif.) produced a run scoring single for the Cougars.

Mariah Culver (Owego, N.Y.) tossed four scoreless innings, allowing four hits and striking out one to improve to 2-6.
