BLOOMFIELD, N.J.- Caldwell University women's basketball graduate
Alessia Smaldone (Malnate, Italy) led the way with 22 points as the Cougars fell 77-67 to Bloomfield College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference contest. The Cougars open postseason play on Tuesday night as they host Georgian Court University in the quarterfinals.
The Cougars fall to 11-15 and end the regular season with an 11-8 CACC record. The Bears end their season at 5-22 overall and 4-14 in conference play.
Junior
Tina Lebron (Manalapan, N.J.) drained three triples early in the opening quarter as they build a 15-9 lead midway through the quarter. The Bears answered as they pulled ahead 23-18 late in the quarter.
The Cougars rallied back with a 10-1 run to take a four-point lead. Smaldone netted six points in the run to help Caldwell pull ahead 28-24 early in the second quarter.
Bloomfield battled back as they pulled ahead 43-42 at halftime. The Bears got off to a fast start to open the third quarter as they extended their lead into double digits. Bloomfield held a lead the rest of the way.
Smaldone led the way with 22 points and six rebounds. Senior
Andie Lennon (Secaucus, N.J.) added 21 points, while Lebron finished with 10 points. Freshman
Paula Dits (Alicante, Spain) tallied eight points and eight rebounds.
The Cougars secure the #2 seed in the North Division and will host South Division #3 Georgian Court in the CACC Championship Quarterfinals on Tuesday, March 5 at 6 pm.
