BLOOMFIELD, N.J.- Caldwell University men's basketball sophomore
Manley Dorme (Nanuet, N.Y.) totaled 22 points as the Cougars were edged out by Bloomfield College 94-86 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference contest. The Cougars will travel to Goldey-Beacom College in the quarterfinals of the CACC Championship on Tuesday night.
The Cougars fall to 17-11 overall and finish the season with a 13-6 CACC record. Bloomfield improves to 19-9 and end the season with a 17-2 conference mark.
Caldwell got off to a fast start as they took the early lead. Junior
AJ Kittles (Glassboro, N.J.) drained an early triple, while Dorme added a bucket at the 16:56 mark for a 9-1 lead. Bloomfield answered to pull ahead 21-17 near the midway point of the half.
The teams traded leads with the Bears pushing ahead 34-30 late in the half. Caldwell battled back to tie the score at 39 following a three-point by junior
Vaughn Covington (Sicklerville, N.J.). Bloomfield added a late three-pointer as they held a 44-41 halftime lead.
The Bears extended their lead to 61-53 early in the second half. The Cougars rallied back with a 13-2 run as junior
Eric Johnson-Alford (Clifton, N.J.) netted four points. Kittles connected on a trifecta and added a lay-up at the 11:06 mark to give the Cougars a 66-63 lead.
Bloomfield answered as they retook the lead and pushed ahead by as much as 14 points down the stretch. The Cougars got as close as six points in the final minute but came up short.
Dorme led the way with 22 points and six rebounds. Kittles chipped in 18 points and six boards. Covington netted 13 points, while junior
Ruud Lutterman (Dalem, Netherlands) posted 11 points and four rebounds. Johnson-Alford recorded a double-double with 11 points, 10 rebounds, three assists and two steals.
The Cougars secure the #3 seed in the North Division and will travel South Division #2 Goldey-Beacom in the CACC Championship Quarterfinals on Tuesday, March 5 at 6 pm.
