WILMINGTON, Del.- Caldwell University men's basketball junior
AJ Kittles (Glassboro, N.J.) and senior
Ahmad Harrison (Newark, N.J.) each netted 21 points as the Cougars fell to Goldey-Beacom College 86-78 in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Championship Quarterfinals.
The Cougars season ends at 17-12, while the Lightning improve to 15-14 and advance to Saturday's semifinals.
Caldwell jumped out to a 5-2 lead powered by an early Harrison three-pointer. The Lightning battled back as they took a 26-22 lead late in the first half.
The Cougars rallied to tie the score at 28 with just over two minutes to play. Goldey-Beacom closed the half strong as they held a 38-33 halftime lead.
The Lightning opened the second half with a run to pull ahead 49-38 at the 15:55 mark. Goldey-Beacom led by as much 14 points midway through the half. Caldwell trimmed the score down to six points at 80-74 with under a minute to play. The Lightning hit six free throws in the final minute to hold off the Cougars down the stretch.
Harrison led the way with 21 points, five assists, two blocks and three steals in his final collegiate game. He shot 4-for-8 from downtown in the loss. Kittles chipped in 21 points and five rebounds. Junior
Vaughn Covington (Sickerville, N.J.) totaled nine points, six boards and six assists. Sophomore
Manley Dorme (Nanuet, N.Y.) posted nine points and two rebounds, while junior
Ruud Lutterman (Dalem, Netherlands) added eight points, six rebounds and two blocks.
