LANTANA, Fla.- The Caldwell University baseball team wrapped up their Florida spring break trip with a 22-2 loss to Southern Connecticut St. University.

The Cougars fall to 2-5, while the Owls improve to 6-9.

Kenneth Matta (Union, N.J.) reached on a fielder's choice in the seventh. Red-shirt freshman
Mike Airey (Millville, N.J.) singled to move Matta to second. Junior
Dhillon Barbetti (West Long Branch, N.J.) singled in Matta for the Cougars' first run of the game.

The Cougars added a run in the eighth as they loaded the bases with one out. Junior
Joseph Mitchell (Bogota, N.J.) led off with a single and stole second. Junior
Tavis Brunson (Westfield, N.J.) was hit by a pitch and freshman
Kyle Richards (Sayreville, N.J.) drew a walk. Matts reached on a fielder's choice to score Mitchell.

Michael Hess (Valley Cottage, N.Y.) took the loss as he pitched two innings, allowing five runs (two earned) on three hits with four strikeouts.

The Cougars return to the Northeast with their home opener against Queens College on Tuesday, March 19 at 3 p.m. at the Kiwanis Oval.
