SAINT LEO, Fla.- The Caldwell University softball team fell to Saint Leo University in a non-conference doubleheader. The Lions took the opener 5-1 and won the nightcap 5-0.
 
The Cougars fall to 1-5 on the season, while the Lions improve to 18-11.
 
In the opener, Saint Leo got on the board first with a pair of runs in the opening inning. Caldwell answered in the top of the second as sophomore 
Anyssia Ramirez (Brentwood, Calif.) drew a leadoff walk. Ramirez moved to second on a sacrifice bunt and scored on a single by freshman 
Lauren Stansell (Plantation, Fla.).
 
The Lions added three runs in the sixth inning as the Cougars were held to five hits in the game.
 
Freshman 
Mariah Culver (Owego, N.Y.) tossed a complete game, allowing five runs (four earned) on seven hits with six strikeouts to fall to 0-3.
 
In the nightcap, the Cougars were limited to one hit, a first inning single by sophomore 
Maya Rodriguez (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.).
 
Junior 
Sara Bearden (Ewing, N.J.) took the loss as she tossed four innings, allowing five runs on five hits with one strikeout. Freshman 
Kayla Daly (Babylon, N.Y.) pitched two scoreless innings, allowing two hits.
 
The Cougars continue their Florida trip on Friday, March 15 as they face NYIT at 1:30 p.m. and Northwood University at 3:45 p.m. at the National Training Center's Hancock Park in Clermont, Florida.
