CLERMONT, Fla.- The Caldwell University softball team split a pair of games as day two of their Florida spring break trip. The Cougars defeated Bentley University 11-1 in five innings for their first win of the season. Caldwell fell to #22 Augustana University 6-0 in their second game of the day.
The Cougars move to 1-3 on the season, while the Falcons fall to 1-8 and the Vikings improve to 14-4.
Caldwell got on the board in the opening inning as sophomore
Kaileen Cain (Hauppauge, N.Y.) doubled home the first run of the game. Bentley tied the game in the bottom half of the inning.
The Cougars broke the game open in the third inning as they scored eight runs. Junior
Jessie Johnston (Livermore, Calif.) and sophomore
Anyssia Ramirez (Brentwood, Calif.) each singled in runs for the Cougars. Freshman
Sara Raubertas (Berlin, N.J.) posted a three-run double for a 6-1 lead. Caldwell added two more runs in the inning on a passed ball and a Bentley error.
Caldwell tacked on two more runs in the fifth as junior
Christina Misiur (Sayreville, N.J.) doubled in a run. Johnston added a run scoring single in the inning.

Sara Bearden (Ewing, N.J.) earned her first win of the season as she tossed three innings, allowing one run on three hits with five strikeouts. Freshman
Kayla Daly (Babylon, N.Y.) tossed two scoreless innings in relief, allowing three hits.
In the second game of the game, Caldwell was limited to three hits against nationally ranked Augustana.
Freshman
Mariah Culver (Owego, N.Y.) had a no-hitter through four innings, but the Vikings scored one run in the fifth and six in the sixth inning. Culver allowed five runs on five hits with one strikeout. Johnston tossed the final two innings, allowing one run on two hits with one strikeout.
The Cougars continue their Florida trip as they travel to St. Leo University for a doubleheader on Wednesday, March 13 at 3 p.m.
