ORANGEBURG, N.Y- The Caldwell University men's basketball team's five starters each netted double digits in points as the Cougars handed Dominican College its first conference loss in a 75-60 victory in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference contest.
The Cougars improve to 12-10 overall and 8-5 in the CACC, while the Chargers fall to 15-4 and 10-1 in conference play.
Caldwell scored the first eight points of the game as they raced out to a 17-7 lead midway through the opening half. Senior
Ahmad Harrison (Newark, N.J.) netted six points, while sophomore
Manley Dorme (Nanuet, N.Y.) and junior
AJ Kittles (Glassboro, N.J.) each scored four points. Junior
Eric Johnson-Alford (Clifton, N.J.) capped the run at the 10:52 mark with a lay-up for a 10-point lead.
Dominican trimmed the score down to five points at 17-12 but Caldwell answered with six straight points. The Chargers closed the gap to 30-22 but Caldwell finished the half strong as they held a 38-28 lead at halftime.
The Chargers got as close as ten points at 49-39 with 12:24 left in the game. Caldwell ripped off an 8-2 run powered by a pair of three pointers from junior
Vaughn Covington (Sicklerville, N.J.) to maintain their double-digit lead the rest of the way.
Kittles led a balanced offensive attack with 16 points, five rebounds and four assists. Junior
Ned Ogoemesim (Westampton, N.J.) chipped in 13 points, seven boards and three steals. Covington totaled 12 points, eight rebounds and four assists. Harrison tallied 12 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Dorme finished with 12 points and two boards.
The Cougars return to action on Saturday, February 9 as they host Chestnut Hill College at 4 p.m. Saturday's doubleheader will be "Super Saturday" as Caldwell Athletic welcomes back its alumni to campus.
