Women’s Basketball Use Second Half Rally to Surge Past Concordia on Senior Night

CALDWELL, N.J.- Caldwell University women's basketball senior Andie Lennon (Secaucus, N.J.) scored 26 points, including 20 in the second half, as the Cougars rallied past Concordia College 71-64 on senior night. Caldwell clinched the #2 spot in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference North Division and will host a first round playoff contest next Tuesday.
 
The Cougars win their sixth game in a row to improve to 11-14 and 11-7 in the CACC, while the Clippers drop to 7-20 and 5-13 in conference play.
 
Concordia led the entire first half as they pulled ahead 13-6 late in the opening quarter. Caldwell battled back they closed the gap to 20-18 early in the second quarter following a three-pointer from junior Tina Lebron (Manalapan, N.J.). The Clippers extended their lead late in the half as they held a 34-26 lead at halftime.
 
Caldwell got off to a fast start in the second half as they scored the first seven points. Lennon converted a three-point play and hit a pair of free throws to help the Cougars cut the score to 34-33. Concordia answered as they pushed their lead to 43-37 midway through the third quarter.
 
The Cougars rallied back as Lennon connected on a three-pointer to spark a 12-5 run. Freshman Tamrin Henderson (Woodbridge, Va.) scored six points in the run as gave Caldwell their first lead of the game at 49-48 late in the third quarter. The Clippers retook the lead and pushed ahead 53-49 early in the fourth quarter.
 
Caldwell surged ahead in the final quarter behind an 18-6 run as Lebron drained a pair of three-pointers, including one at the 5:24 mark to give the Cougars the lead for good. Lennon capped the run with a lay-up with 1:36 left in the game to give Caldwell a 67-59 lead. Lennon also added a clutch jumper in the waning seconds to put Caldwell up five points down the stretch.
 
Lennon led the way with 26 points, six assists and five steals. Graduate Alessia Smaldone (Malnate, Italy) totaled 13 points and three rebounds, while freshman Paula Dits (Alicante, Spain) added six points and six rebounds. Lebron finished with 12 points and five rebounds. Henderson added eight points and seven boards.
 
Prior to the game, Caldwell Athletics recognized it two graduating seniors in Lennon and Kristen Siscamanis (Winthrop, Mass.).
 
The Cougars wrap up the regular season as they travel to Bloomfield College for a CACC contest on Saturday, March 2 at 1:00 pm.
